Popped it in, and could instantly start creating favorites for spots we were going to be. Once in France, turned on the unit and it worked perfectly. No manual switching between maps or configuration of any kind: plug it in, and away we went. It has a huge database of points of interest, and it knows about every single street in France, even the tiniest one lane road through vineyards or around minuscule towns. If you have a Nuvi and are going to be in France, I wholeheartedly recommend this. Had the chip by Thursday inserted it and it was ready to go. We set the search to direct us to avoid freeways and had a great 8 days driving the backroads of France. We could not have navigated many of these small one lane roads without the garmin. It made our trip very enjoyable without the stress of trying to read maps, watch for poorly marked small roads and asking for directions. When I arrived in France, the GPS recognized that I was in France but did not find the maps and did not work. I reviewed the manual but that was no help. I emailed Garmin and received a reply in French saying "Due to a spate of calls and emails, please visit our main site...If you can not find the answer to your question please contact our hotline on 01 55 17 81 89." I tried the website and any other Garmin website I could find online, but could not find what I needed. I called the hotline several times, but each time it answered with a recording in French and I found no option for English. The French recording said to connect the GPS to a computer and then talk with them, but I was in a phone booth! I NEVER got to talk with a live human. I was never able to get the GPS to work in... On very important point though any buyer should be aware of. You can't download the maps contained on this Micro SD card to your Mapsource Software, which pretty much makes the Mapsource software useless. I contacted Garmin and the very friendly customer service rep. said that the Micro SD cards maps can't be downloaded off the card on to your PC. She recommended (as I would) that if you want to be able to view the maps on your PC and use the PC to map routes, edit waypoints etc. buy the DVD's not the Micro SD. They are the same price. Bottom-line. If you want to just pop the card in your GPS device and use it then this item is probably the way to go. If you want to do more, especially with your PC, then get the DVD instead. I wish I had known this before I ordered non returnable software. What a great deal (I paid only $103.00)! For that I got all of the maps pre-loaded on a 2GB SanDisk Micro SD card with no headaches or problems. It works like a charm. The only drawback is that you cannot move the maps and waypoints to your MapPoint software. For me it is well worth it. I have a MacIntosh computer that isn't exactly friendly with Garmin GPS's so this solved the problem by allowing me to by-pass my computer and install the system very easily. Easy to use, accurate and worth the money to get the most out of your compatible GPS Garmin units. I had considered paying for the rental car agency's navigation system, but it would have been considerably more than the $70 I paid for this map set. The chip is easy to use with our Garmin Nuvi; simply insert it, turn on the GPS, select Germany for country and you are off and running. We found the maps to be very accurate. We kept our system in miles, as it made for a better frame of reference, but you could change it to Kilometers if required. The navigation system came in handy when we had to navigate around a "Stau" (German word for traffic jam) on the Autobahn. The Navigation system helped maneuver through the German country side and on to an alternative route. We will definitely use this map set again when we travel to Germany in the future.
